Nuggets on the Yamfo and Tanoso Health Centers Upgrade
Background
• As proactive as he is, Dr. Gideon Boako has been liaising with communities and government agencies in the Tano North Constituency to identify key bottlenecks and areas requiring development.
• He has been subsequently pursuing measures to address any challenges that come to his attention. Among many things, he sends letters, seeks face to face audience with government agency heads and Ministers, striving hard to carry the problems in the Constituency across in order to find solutions for them.
• Somewhere last year, after his visit to the Yamfo Health Center to meet the staff of the facility just as he did at the Duayaw Nkwanta and Bomaa hospitals a few weeks ago, he realized there is the urgent need to upgrade the Yamfo and Tanoso Health Centers to Polyclinics.
• Subsequently, he engaged Health administration officials in the Constituency and the region and he found it expedient to send letters to the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Services.
• Additionally, based on the preliminary information he received from the Ghana Health Services, he found it necessary to invoke the powers available to him as a Member of Parliament to get the Minister of Health to appear before parliament for questioning on the Tanoso and Yamfo Health centers upgrade. Accordingly, he filled a parliamentary question on 5th February 2026.
• Thankfully, the Speaker of Parliament approved the question and summoned the Health Minister to parliament yesterday, 29th July 2026 to answer Dr. Gideon Boako's questions.
The Health Minister's Response
• The Minister responded that government has no plans to upgrade the current Yamfo and Tanoso Health Centers.
• The Minister stated that already, Newmont Ghana is building a Health facility which is 70% complete for Yamfo and they will upgrade the Newmont one to Polyclinic status.
• Dr. Gideon Boako further asked the Minister that if they upgrade the new Newmont facility what would government do about the existing facility at Yamfo.
• The Minister said it might not need an upgrade but rather retooling. This means that government has no plans to upgrade it.
• On Tanoso, given that the Minister answered initially that government has no plans to upgrade it in 2026, Dr. Gideon Boako further asked the Minister to assure the chiefs and people of Tanoso that the upgrade of the Tanoso Health Center will be captured in the 2027 budget.
• The Minister reharshed his earlier point that government has not said they will upgrade the Tanoso Health Centers and that he is not in a position to affirm whether or not it would be captured in the 2027 budget.
