The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly has begun issuing spot fines to sanitation offenders especially drivers and passengers who litter the environment by throwing rubbish from moving vehicles. A 22-year-old taxi driver, Nartey Godfred, who was seen throwing rubbish from his moving vehicle on the Koforidua Kenkey factory road close to the St. Bakita Catholic Church, was immediately arrested and taken to the municipal assembly where he was charged with sanitation-related offences and was made to pay a fine of GHC100.00 as stipulated in the assembly bylaws. This move, according to the assembly, will help sanitise the space and help residents and commuters to change their attitude towards the environment. The New Juaben South Municipal Environmental Officer, Emmanuel Tetteh, speaking to Channel One TV, indicated that no one will be spared for indiscriminate waste disposal in the municipality.
